[DeTomaso] oil choice

True in part on rev limit, time at limt etc., but IMO sump size is a different question and irrelvant on oil selection, if your oil pump runs dry it ain't gonna matter how much Zn & P you got.

Topic drift a little but more damage is probably done on occasional use dry starts where oil has drained from wetted surfaces than anything, IMO an oil accumulator (Accusump) is one of the best investments you can make for a car that sits for periods between use.

It is not possible to answer this question without knowing how you use the car.
How big is your sump?
Do you track the car or otherwise run it at high revs for long periods?
When you drive it, how and how long do you do so?

I used Castrol 20-50 in my cars for years and now feel that I probably caused unnecessary engine wear in doing so.

personally I don't take any chances and use exclusively Brad Penn (Kendall)
oil which I know has sufficient zinc and phosphorous.
