[DeTomaso] Poll What Will be Faster?

Patrick,

Less than 2 years ago I drove several XKRs on a few different track layouts (figure-8,
skid pad, auto-X, full course, etc) with and without 'famous' instructors like Roberto
Guerrero. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roberto_Guerrero) While I drove modestly by their
standards, the instructors drove like they got paid more the faster they pushed it...

If you can't image that, I have both pics and wildly unstable hand-held video (grin for
the experience, and frown for my inability to professionally video the rides...).

This was a Jaguar owner's school track event in So Cal.

So my opinion:
In the hands of the same driver car-to-car, with decent driving experience I would have to
tip my hat to the Jag.

(I'm comparing this to passenger time with quite a number of experienced Pantera drivers,
as well as my own driving.)

The XKRs paddle shifting is milli-second quick, and the computer traction control is
very forgiving, but quick and nimble. The technology at the limits is truly incredible!

In one weekend I put 800 road miles in a XKR to get/from to the event, and maybe people
got 100-125 miles of course experience. Jaguar supplies more cars than drivers. They add
top talent as your instructors.

This experience gave me a strong impression of the cars potential in the right hands.

Special Note:

As part of your XKR purchase, you will/should receive a super discount on their "Advanced
Driver Program" where you get track time (long day(s)), in a fleet of new Jags.
A buyer used to have (2009) to pay the full fare ($2,000 ???), but something like $1,000
from your purchase now goes towards this program.

REALLY check into getting your track time thru Jaguar, see it as half paid-for.

Chuck

My Pantera is soon to have a new stable mate, the 2011 Jaguar XKR
Special Edition Black Pack.
510hp, 461lbs, 0-60 4'ish, 0-100mph 8.5 seconds , 1/4 mile 12.2 seconds
(Car and Driver). The old gal has a 393 stroked engine with ported 3v
alloy heads 11.5/1 race gas.
Roller rockers, a Crane 238/248 solid flat tappet camshaft, 735 Holley
vintage 4 barrel on an Edelbrock Air Gap, aluminum rad and no AC
compressor.
The 1971 probably weighs in at 3000lbs? The Jag is all aluminum weighing
in at 3850 lbs. I am thinking a tie to 3rd gear 6500 rpm and then the
XKR pulls away?
It'll have to be pretend because I don't want to leave my rebuilt ZF on
the ground in little pieces.
The Pantera and the 1966 XKE were both expressing some anxiety at the
thought of a new boarder.
