[DeTomaso] Alternator Help

Will,

I think earlier in this thread, you also mentioned something about the
starter solenoid. There is a wire typically hooked to the starter
solenoid that powers the system while cranking. If you've somehow
inadvertently hooked this to the powered side of the alternator, I
believe it will keep the car running as it will be constantly
supplying power to the coil, even when the key is off.

SOBill is probably on his way to Reno. You'll have to wait until I
get home tonight and I might be able to help sort this out if nobody
else gets back to you sooner.

For now, I think you need to do some drawing. Get your crayons out
and slide under the car. You need to illustrate how the starter
solenoid is hooked up (if you have both a firewall and a starter
mounted solenoid, illustrate both). You need to illustrate how the
firewall mounted regulator is hooked up, if it is. You need to
illustrate how the one-wire alternator is hooked up.

Don't necessarily worry about tracing all the wires and where they go.
Just show how many wires are on what terminal and what color they
are. That's about the only way I'm going to be able to help. Also,
if you have a camera, put it in macro mode (the little flower) and
take photos of all the pieces, starter, starter solenoid, firewall
solenoid, firewall voltage regulator and back of alternator.

I'll see what I can do to help,
Asa Jay
