[DeTomaso] Electrical Help Needed

Ammeter has been jumpered behind cosole. It's no longer an ammeter.
I replaced a 1 wire GM alternator (w built in reg) for a new 1 wire GM
alternator
There are 2 large cables connected from the battery to the back of the alt.
I connected the blue/blk wire to the #1 (field) tab on the alt ( I had 0
volts)
I connected the yellow wire to the #2 tab on the alt (I had 12v)
All was good. I had 13V whaen I started the car. It went down when I
actuated the lights and fans but that is normal (it went down to 12.35v)
The car wouldn't turn off when I turned the key off until I disconnected the
blue/blk wire,
Also, it's then when I noticed that Fuse #3 was blown. I replaced it.
Now, it seems to be running fine with the yellow wire connected to alt tab
#2 and #1 is not connected. No light is on my dash, btw.

Will,

Just to clarify, did you just change from the stock alternator with a
firewall mounted voltage regulator? Or did
you just replace a 1-wire alternator with another 1-wire alternator?

Also, do you have an ammeter or a volt meter in the console?

There should be a heavier (#10 or #8) black wire that was connected to your
old alternator's BATT terminal.
That black wire should be connected to the BATT terminal of your new
alternator. The yellow wire should
have been connected to the battery side of your original starter solenoid
and to the voltage regulator. That
wire is not needed.

Connect the blue/black wire to the alternator's #1 terminal.

Connect a wire from the alternator's #2 terminal to the BATT terminal on the
alternator.

John
