Chuck Melton, if you're reading this, could you please ad this car to your
"Cars for Sale" section on provamo.com. You can use the images from my
flickr site: www.flickr.com/photos/dakelm if you wish. Thanks.

Doug

Subject: [DeTomaso] Long & Newman Pantera replica

Some of you may remember a posting last month about an ebay auction for one
of these L&N kits:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_rdcZ1QQitemZ290576090243QQruZhttpQ3aQ2fQ2fshopQ2eebayQ2ecomQ3a80Q2fiQ2ehtmlQ3fQ5ffromQ3dR40Q26Q5ftrksidQ3dm570Q2el2736Q26Q5fnkwQ3d290576090243Q26Q5ffviQ3d1

Since this was in my neck of the woods, I went over to check it out. I was
unable to see the car before the auction ended, but saw it the next week.
You can see the pictures I took on my photo hosting site:

Subsequent to the auction ending, a sale was negotiated with a FL buyer, but
that transaction fell through due to health issues with the buyer. To my
knowledge, the kit is still for sale and any serious offer over 10K would
probably seal the deal. The only details that have changed since the auction
posting is that the wheels/tires are now included in the purchase price,
making it a rolling chassis, and the included windshield has a crack and
would need replacing. The kit comes with an NOS ZF transaxle (see my pics)
which is probably worth half the price alone! The seller is John Ysker, an
aircraft mechanic, machinist, welder, designer, fabricator and all 'round
creative genius (and hell of a nice guy), who, with his wife Judy, runs a
little outfit called Thunderbolt Enterprises:

www.thunderboltentp.com

whose principal activity is the design and manufacture of V8 powered
motorcycles and trikes. Not shown on his website is his latest design which
features hub center steering, multi gear transaxle drive and numerous other
cool design features. Intellectual property constraints prevent me from
sharing any photos of this project, but, trust me, these cycles will make
the Boss Hoss look like Fred's Flintstone Mobile. John, who was an original
vendor for the Long & Newman kits, is selling his to finance the completion
of this latest project.

I have no financial stake in this sale, and in fact just met John for the
first time when I went up to inspect the Pantera kit. I'm just an interested
bystander, willing to perform any detective work (i.e. ask questions, take
more pictures, etc.) that a member of the Pantera community may want prior
to making an offer on this car. And I really want to see John finish his
bike project - at 67, he's not getting any younger!

If you look at my flickr pictures, the rust you see on the chassis is
surface rust only (from sitting unpainted for 30+ years). The chassis is
John's own design and construction and is very stout. Since the rear wheel
wells are non structural, the engine bay is wide open and should accept just
about any size or shape motor you want to use. John tooled up and had cast
his own hub carriers which are obviously Jag based in design and have
caliper ears front and rear. The hubs are Ford bolt pattern. This would make
a great track car project or radical street Pantera without the need to hack
up or repair a perfectly restorable original Pantera.

Those who are interested can contact John directly through his website or by
phone at 763-786-0020. You can reach me by email at
