[DeTomaso] Matching Numbers

Well, three people so far on THIS forum have said that it doesn't matter. 

Personally I agree with the opinions expressed on this forum - I wouldn't
pay any extra for a matching-numbers car, and actually would pay MORE if the
replacement was more interesting - stroker, DART block, etc

That's what I thought and when I wrote a post to that effect several of the
local "experts" pointed out very quickly that I was wrong. They said that
beisdes the vin # and body # and headlight bucket #'s people are in fact
interested in having the correct engine number and trans axle # all match
and  original. So which is it? Matching numbers are important or they
aren't?
