Michael's story is right on except it wasn't a 512TR, it was the earlier "TR" 
with the single high mirror (pre '87) with the centerlock wheels.

A fantastic machine!

I hope so, but TR512's are rolling art more than anything else.

A belt change and tune up will set you back 10K.

Also, super wide for a sports car, but hey, Sonny Crockett looked good
driving it.

There is a whole behind the scenes story on that as well.

Ferrari didn't like the fact that the Daytona was on the show, esp when
everybody knew it was a Corvette.

So Porsche offered them a 930 Turbo instead and the deal was done, then F
heard about it and offered them 5 TR 512's
to stick with Ferrari, ( one for Phillip Michael Thomas, One for Don
Johnson, one for Michael Mann and two for the show to use.

Porsche wouldn't match the offer, so they went with the 512.

Plus the stunt car for the TR 512, was actually a Pantera with plastic
panels glued to it.
