It's not really that disturbing in context

I think these issues distract us from actually talking about policy,
which has been remarkably consistent from Regan through Obama and
pretty darn consistent all the way back to Teddy Roosevelt. But the
devil is in the details, and they really are worthy of vigorous
debate.
