Tubes... It wouldn't hurt to paint them if you want.  Make sure it's completely!! dry before putting the hoses back on.
 
Headlight chatter... is often an engagement issue with the gears.  Watch them closely.  The chatter can come from the 
teeth hitting each other as the bearing surface switches from the up pattern to the unloaded down pattern.  A little 
deeper engagement can help.  Lube everything.  You should also have the brass gears in motor drive anyway.  FWIW
