Hm. They don't know how much the car will cost. 
They don't know whether the engine will develop 300 or 500 hp. 
They don't know if they have financing to proceed. 
They don't have a running prototype

But nearly 1500 people have plopped down money to buy a to-be-defined
product? 

Some DeTomaso traditions have survived the ownership change! ;-)
