Charles, it would be very interesting to see some real data as to the
extent of failure in flat tappet cams (solid and hydraulic) rather than
just anecdotal.
Does failure mostly occur at break-in or does it occur after break-in-in
and if so after how many hours of operation? Does failure occur with all
brands of cam shaft or just some?
What if we control for cam lobe profile, spring pressure, assembly lube
type, break-in oil type etc.
I suspect that there are many variables associated with cam lobe wiping
and premature wear. Not all of this will be solved by adding ZDDP.
Without real facts and data it is all speculation.
