One way that comes to mind is if the serial number is in the 9000-series. 
None of the '71-'77 Panteras were of this series which the factory only used 
from 1980-up. This series includes the GT-5, the GT5-S, the Pantera SI and 
the later narrow-body GTS with angular rear inner fender panels, but it 
excludes all Ford-built Panteras- the most numerous and likely candidates for 
body conversion. 
Peter Havlik is the authority on 9000-series cars and maintains a registry 
of real and converted cars at <phavlik at pris.ca> in British Columbia 
(Canada). Interestingly, a few real GT-5 cars were later factory-converted to GT5-S 
type, and Peter lists those, too. Cheers- J Deryke
