True; the preferred bolt placement seems to be more a matter of convenience 
in holding the bolt head with an open end wrench while removing the nut 
with a box-end wrench, than trying to do it the opposite way. The halfshafts 
have spot-faced holes that a bolt head partially recesses into, so the 
relatively thin bolt head sinks in.   Gripping it with an open end wrench is hard; 
a box-end normally won't clear halfshaft parts. And if the bolt shanks are a 
tight fit in the parts, turning the bolt for removal is difficult even if 
you do somehow get a good hold on the head. Tightening the assembly enough to 
avoid vibrations under power is even more difficult. FWIW- J DeRyke
