My engine has about 6,000 miles since the rebuild and has always burned oil. It appears the only cylinder burning oil is #3. I'm going to have my mechanic look at it. After driving 60 to 100 miles or so, the plug is completely encased in black carbon-ish stuff which I chip off with an awl, then I wire-brush the center and ground electrodes, re-gap it and put it back in. Once we figure out if the problem is a valve guide or gasket leak or whatever and fix it, I'll buy a new plug...

I had a fresh SBC.. that I never could stop from using oil... I filled it with synthetic after rebuilding.. even after changing to a conventionel oil... SOME said "run it hot" I could not... it was a scalded dog.. but smoked and burned oil..soot the rear bumps.. PS, I'm not an expert .. Bill 1362
