[DeTomaso] need opinion on oil and filter

Jim,
Thanks--I should have mentioned I had my engine bored and stroked with all new components inside, so I no longer have to worry about the ZDP issue. Also, I don't race my car at all (much to chagrin of almost all my Pantera buddies!) so oil overheating probably isn't a problem for me. If someday I do take my car to the track, I'll remember to use different oil.
Sincerely,
Chris

Chris,

How long have you been using 10-30 Mobil 1? Is it or the Castrol what I believe is called an Energy Star oil, with the little symbol on the can? If so it has VERY low levels of ZDDP. Unless you have roller lifters that is bad news re cam wear.

Also, I know Steve Wilkinson recommends 15W-40 Delo or equivalent oil (or the 5W-40 synthetic counterparts) and that's what I use, but a -30 oil is pretty thin. I'm sure it's fine if you don't push the engine hard enough long enough to overheat the oil, but if you do push it you'll want to watch your oil pressure to make sure it doesn't drop because the oil has gotten too thin.

I'm looking for some expert opinions on oil.
I'm currently using an K&N filter and Mobile 1 synthetic 10-30 oil. I did an
on-line survey or something and for doing it got a case of Castrol Edge Titanium
5-30 synthetic oil, and a couple of Mobile 1 M-301 filters.
Do I have a problem if for the next couple of oil changes I use the Castrol oil
and the Mobile 1 filters?
Thanks,
Chris
