The following paragraph is from the same website that Larry presented, www.tinyurl.com/repro-plates. Texas is a "Front & Rear" plate state - how easy would it be to allow those who chose to NOT buy a front plate, and pay extra for that privilege. I don't think anyone runs a front plate on their Pantera - and what they say is that it is not a "chargeable offense" and if they get a ticket, just pay it and keep on. Houston (and probably most large cities) don't hassle about them. ----Bill Lewis
Texas License PlatesTexas has one of the largest groups of car collectors in the United States. The State of Texas always advertises itself as a conservative state where government infringement on people is minimal and industries flourish due to “business friendly” laws. However, this is not true for the auto restoration and car collector industries.Collectors cannot purchase replica of old Texas license plates for car shows, automobile auctions like Barrett-Jackson, and leading events like the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The anti-libertarian, non-conservative Texas penal Code 6.07 has caused irreparable harm to car collectors and the antique car industry in the State of Texas. Texans with million dollar automobiles to owners of cars worth a few thousands are affected by this archaic law. In an era of VIN verification databases, automatic license plate readers, police cruisers with WAN connected laptops and government data which show that criminals do not purchase 30 year and older Texas license plates to pursue criminal activity, the laws of the State of Texas reveal the voters are being hoodwinked by their State Representatives and Senators. The voters of Texas have been canvassed by both Democrats and Republicans about the protection of individual freedom and business-friendly platforms. Elected officials waste taxpayer money by passing archaic laws applying to license plates issued over 30 years ago. Whereas penal code 6.07 does not affect in any significant way the revenues of replica license plate manufacturers, it infringes on the individual rights of Texans, many of whom refer to their restored motor vehicles as works of art. This attack on the freedom of expression of Texans must be rescinded by the politicians in Austin. The politicians in Austin will not rescind this archaic law, Texans must contact their State Senators, Representatives and Governor directly about this issue.Contact your elected officials in AustinContact Governor Rick Perry
