[DeTomaso] Big Problem with POCA's Election Process!

In my humble opinion there is a very large problem with POCA's voting
process. I became quite aware of this when I ran for President a few years
back. Out of the nearly 1000 members and along with their associates, there
should be nearly 2000 votes if all had voted. When I ran, if memory serves,
only about 250 votes total for the entire club, split between Joe Moore,
John Taphorn and myself. Dr. Chuck Engles can correct these figures if not
exact but I'm sure he can attest to the fact that, traditionally, a VERY
LOW PERCENTAGE of votes come in! Why were there only 100-200 members
voting??? Well.. because the process is flawed. A ballot should be CLEARLY
provided to all members in a TIMELY FASHION, on a separate sheet or mailing,
other than embedded in a magazine that's delivery date is non dependable.
Additionally, many might not read each Newsletter cover to cover upon arrival
and the ballot is overlooked by many of the voting public. Seriously.....at
very least, the front cover of the Newsletter should make a big note,
"Voting Ballot Enclosed This Month".... but since that is not even sufficient
as so many do not receive their Newsletter in time. The ultimate and best
way is to mail out a separate ballot (or post card) for voting purposes.
It's worth the expenditure. Or, at no cost, have an ON LINE BALLOT.
Something needs to be done so that members are made aware of candidates, the time
for voting, and not stuck with officers who gain position in ways that are
not valid due to an antiquated and inferior voting system.
On that note... Happy Holidays and best of luck to all.
p.s. If you want a redheaded secretary, write me in. : )))

In reference to my quote listed above.........one can substitute 'Les"
for "less" and see that it actually means "there will be one LES Gray to
kick around" ( if elected) ........................... and the hair thing . .
. . . . . . . . . . I do have a full head of hair but I don't think I
would look good as a blond or red head so you've got me there Judy !!!!!

As Judy stated, the most important thing is that you vote
during this or any election. You can't complain about the leadership if you
choose not to get involved in the selection process !!!!

         Les Gray
