Dear Rick,

The best bang for the buck for the first big step up from the bone stock system in my personal experience is to:
Replace the master cylinder with the aftermarket replacement from Pantera Performance Center
Use braided stainless steel brake lines
Upgrade to modern brake pads
Flush the brake fluid thoroughly
Consider a caliper rebuild if needed
