1.  Porterfield R4S pads - with the slot in the rear to keep the e-brake
function.  They make a huge difference.
2.  I'm assuming they are bled properly (all 6 bleeder screws)
3.  Braided stainless lines help

That's it.  If it still isn't stopping on a dime, rebuild the calipers.  It
isn't difficult.  The hardest part is getting the pistons out.  Try not to
cock them.  Rebuild = take them apart, clean, remove sludge, replace
o-rings.

If it still isn't stopping, I'd replace or rebuild the master.

I have a stock 1972.  The brakes have never been fastastic and I'd like to
improve the braking.  I cannot lock up the wheels no matter how part I press
the pedal. 
 What are suggestions to improve the stock brake system?
 
In addition, what aftermarket brake upgrades are there available?
