I don't know what it is about New Mexico, but they just don't seem
interested in speed enforcement there. I first discovered this when I rode with Jim
Demick, who lives about 17 miles outside of Alburquerque. Once clear of
the last stoplight, his foot went down and we cruised at 100+ all the way to
his town (on the sparsely populated interstate). I asked him about speed
enforcement and he just dismissed it, said it was no factor.

A couple of years later I had to drive to ABQ to attend a safety school
(ironically) in my silver Scirocco. When I hit the NM border my foot went
down to the floor and stayed there. Aerodynamics and the grade of the road
became the limiting factor in my speed, which varied from 109 to 115 mph or
thereabouts, for hours.

What a wonderful place!

Mike
