 Gary,

Can I schedule my car in for you to change the spark plugs. I figure when I get it back it would be totally restored :)

Do you think your Pantera will be running by next year's Summer Summit?

Subject: [DeTomaso] NPC Fork Truck

I thought some of the gear heads might appreciate this; especially since
it's a slow day.

We have an couple old fork trucks. All need a little work so I started
with the oldest and worst one first. This was a truck we bought for $800.
In hind sight I should have hauled it to a scrapyard (which I could have
got about $800 in steel) and spent my money on a better truck. Once I
rebuilt the lift cyl I had an investment soo......

It was running like crap. We just needed an interim truck so we can work
on other trucks occasionally. It seems to be a mobile work table more then
anything for sorting out product. It was leaking coolant internally.
Ironically the only truck with no external leaks. It was backfiring really
bad at start up.

Didn't even know what year the truck was, what engine. I at one point had
the head resurfaced and they thought it was a continental. The resurface
did not fix the leaks or the backfiring. Soon figured out the backfiring
were valve issues. It is a flat head motor. I figured I would pull the
head and access the valves from the side and maybe give it a valve job.

Well, a valve job has turned into a complete engine overhaul. The machine
shop is finishing boring the engine and other work. I should get it back
for assembly soon.

We have discovered it is a Chrysler 230 which I know nothing about...but
have found there is a bit of a following in the flathead word.

I have been cleaning, blasting and powdercoating parts while I wait on the
engine. trying to find a stopping point as my general nature want's to
restore ever corner of this but common sense says just put the damn thing
back together.
