Mike,

You can remove the right angle drive without dropping anything into the ZF if you unscrew the large nut
at the base of the right angle drive.

If you remove the bolt (#804) and remove the sleeve (#802), that's when you run the risk of dropping the 
speedo gear (#801) into the ZF.  If you clamp the gear to the sleeve, you won't drop the gear into the ZF, 
unless your clamp comes loose.
