[DeTomaso] Photos of the driveway ramp thing

Charles, haven't been paying attention when I saw this topic, didn't know it
was you. Knowing it is you, I of course want to chime in with great advice,
forgive me if this has already been suggested: Go full speed, it'll fly
over. When going full speed into the garage, place a mattress on the wall
just in case your brakes are not sufficient.

Reminds me of a story, whether it's true or just a story I don't know. But
since it is supposed to take place in Sweden, I wouldn't be surprised (sorry
Thomas and friends). In the early 70s Volvos had huge metal and rubber
bumpers, they had a vertical flat area almost 8" high. Well one day one of
those tanks couldn't start, no battery, parked on the street. This man goes
into his neighbor's house, the wife is home, she has the same type of car.
He asks for a push to get it started (manual transmission obviously). The
neighbor's wife is not too keen, won't that wreck the cars?! No no, says the
man, these bumpers are very big and strong, they'll easily manage a slight
push, and when the cars get up to maybe 20mph, he'll engage 2nd gear and let
the transmission turn the engine and start the car. Neighbor's wife still
wasn't sure, it sounded dangerous. In the end though, she said yes (most
women do, but that's another story (sorry)). So the man got in his Volvo,
key in, ignition on, no steering lock, waiting to be gently pushed up to
20mph. The neighbor's wife drove out of the driveway, backed up 300 feet,
accelerated to 20mph and hit the rear of the Volvo with the man, smashing
them both. I wonder who got the blame for that one... :-)

Mvh/Regards
Mikael

It's a pretty slow Sunday on the list, so I thought I'd send some photos of
my masterpiece of this weekend!

I now have high speed internet installed at home - it was really hard to
write with only a web-based e-mail service on a Blackberry... I got some
good ideas from the Peanut Gallery regarding more permanent solutions, so
now that I have at least one workable one, ugly though it may be, I can take
my time and decide what I want to do long-term.

Pix are here:

Compared to some of the works of art on others' websites, this is somewhat
third gradish, but it got the car in the garage!!! The solution was to build
up a pyramid with blocks of wood to raise up the front wheels to clear the
hump.

My parking brake is of course all frogged up now, but that poor parking
brake takes at least one hit a year which knocks it out of commission until
my next safety inspection.. when I fix it, and it lasts about a whole week
before hitting something else.
