Dave,

Even if we extend to oil change by only a month the cost savings/payback are
still there. Now when we talk keeping the oil supper clean, this is a
savings in our expensive motors!

Lube guys call it "additive depletion" and that's how a good synthetic 
wears out.
You can keep it clean with good filtering, you can keep it dry by making 
sure it gets complete temperature cycles
and modern fuel keeps the acidity down, but the additives get used up.
