Rob, at least on L-models, the heads of both studs are welded- sort of- to 
the channel. I found the heads are round so even if you spread the channel 
open enough to get an end-wrench inside, there's no hex to grip. And the 
'welding' consists of a series of two or more spot-welds to the shank side of 
the round heads, so extreme care is needed to keep from shearing the little 
spot-welds if you try drilling & tapping. 
Possibly the most secure repair is to knock or drill out the remains, drill 
a 3/4" dia hole in the backside of the channel and add a gr-5 bolt which 
can then be tightened up with a socket and extension. From the number of these 
that pop loose or break (I had one of each)), I suspect the original 
weld-studs were grade-nothing. Not what's needed there, especially with larger 
than stock swaybars. Good luck- J DeRyke
