[DeTomaso] DMV registration question for fellow Kalifornians.

Having a local drivers license makes a nice souvenir.

I couldn't trade my US license for a Spanish license - I was required to sit
through Driver's Education, take a written test, and pass the minimum number
of hours behind the wheel with an instructor (6 hours), which I did when I
was 39 years old.

But having a foreign license can be helpful in avoiding radar camera tickets
from reaching you... or so I've been told. ;-)

That does you no good if a motorcycle cop stops you however. Or so I've been
told :-(

Not related to car registration, but to DMV in California.

My daughter is on a one year university exchange program in San Luis
Obispo, CA.

She bought a car from a former exchange student before the arrived, and
she thought that it would be best to have a CA drivers licence.

She took all tests, and sent in all papers in October last year, and she
still haven't received her license.

When she called, which is an ordeal of itself, after about three months,
they told her she needed to send in copies of her visa! They could have
told her that earlier. She faxed that in, and still nothing.

She called again, and they claimed they had not received the fax.

There's just too much to list here, but the latest is now that they
refuse to make her a license as she has less than 60 days left on her visa.

She really wanted to have the license as a memorabilia of her wonderful
year in California.

She has now written a letter to the Director of DMV in Sacramento, not
sure if it will help, but if no one cares about lousy service, then
things will never get any better.

I have recommended her to write a book about her experience with DMV. ;)

Cheers,
Thomas
