[DeTomaso] [SCPOCA] Molding clay

The stuck bolt holds the thermostat housing onto the manifold, and is about 1" from the carb. Do I be careful!! Do I heat the bolt?, the housing?, or the aluminum manifold? I have a mechanic/friend doing this and he has done this before - any do's and don't's? Thanks again. (I have given up on making the "dam" using clay and/or silicone caulking - it still leaks.)

Interesting... although I was aware of the ATF+brake fluid mix, I've always used brake fluid.
Oh, well... I'll have to have a personal showdown between the two now.

Hi Bill,
Yes it is ATF and not brake fluid in that mix. You can make you "Dam" out of
silicone caulking if the plumbers putty does not work with the ATF mix.
You may want to hit it with a hammer during the soaking time to loosen
things up.
I have always found heat to unstuck (or melt) bolts off. A TIG torch is a
nice small way to heat things up. There is also a new "induction" heating
tool out there.

Kirby: I tried making the modeling clay dam - three times - it leaked out.
Everyone: I have a bolt that will not break loose. It is an iron (?) bolt
in an aluminum manifold. Kirby said to build a dam around the site and fill
it with half acetone and half brake fluid, and let it set for several days.
I tried that three times and apparently the clay did not stick/adhere to the
thermostat housing and the fluid leaked out. On the third time I made the
dam real small and really tried to stick it on good, but it still leaked.
Anyone have any ideas?
(Sorry about the bear ) ---Bill
Animals that were formerly self-sufficient are now showing signs of
belonging to the Democrat Party..... as they have apparently learned to just
sit on their butts and wait for the government to step in and provide for
their care and sustenance.
