[DeTomaso] Shifting Problem, Too Funny

Well after a long winter storage (just was busy during the past winter
season to drive it, although we did have some 20 degree weather days) I
pulled the cover off of the 5-0 Pushbutton and decided to start and take her
out for a drive and circulate the fluids. She started up fine but when I
went to back out of the driveway I found that I had no reverse gear. Damn,
leave her sitting and the shifter adjustment must have gone off tune.
Having done the adjustment routine so many time that I have it memorized, I
got out the wrenches and went to work. After several attempts I still
couldn't get reverse gear working. Frustrated I took a break and just sat
in the car thinking of my next move. Then looking at the shift plate I
realized . . . Having been driving my newly acquired Toyota T100 pickup
during the winter months I had gotten used to it's shift pattern and was
putting the Pantera in 5th gear instead of reverse! Duh! Funny thing is
that when I first got the truck, I kept starting off in 2nd gear (1st gear
on the Pantera) and always stumbled the take offs. I guess the moral of the
story is to drive your toys or you'll forget how!

Aloha from Las Vegas,

Dennis
