FWIW, the existence of a crossover- internal to a muffler or not, X-pipe or 
H-pipe- seems to be able to drop sound by 1-2 dBs by itself while adding 
1-5 bhp in some systems according to D. Vizard.   Chopping the crossover out 
along with whatever packing is in there will doubtless make the system 
louder. Sheer size and volume of a muffler does a lot by itself, which is part of 
the problem with our Ansas. They are the size of pre-muffler or 
pre-cat-converter resonators on front engined cars. Good luck and don't forget to dyno & 
dB test before & after for our data log- J Deryke
