[DeTomaso] quiet day

We finally hit 70 degrees for the first time this year in Iowa, so spent a lot of time outdoors. Got to go to a tech session put on by our Porsche club and got to see a transmission disassembled with an explanation/demonstration on how syncros work. Very interesting. Even more interesting was a project where the two brothers that restore 356s are hand forming most of the body panels to replace the ones that rusted under a tarp for 30 years. Amazing English wheel work.

Was able to test my recently recharged A/C and was seeing 32 degrees at the vents on a 73 degree day. My A/C hasn't worked since I lost the first charge when I restored it 24 years ago. I gave up after that figuring I wouldn't drive it that much to care. I assumed I had a leaking compressor. I had the system leak tested last month and nothing showed up, so the shop put in some 134 with some dye to see where the leak was. When they went to put the 134 in they found that one of the valves on the compressor was only finger tight, which they tightened before adding the 134. Ran the car throughout March and was seeing low 30s at the vent and not any signs of dye leaks anywhere. I'm pleased that I didn't have to replace any system components but at the same time I'm pissed that I've driven the car for 24 years without air because I didn't bother to have the system looked at. Hell I could have had the system charged with R12 for probably $20 back then. Anyway it looks like I'll have A/C for the drive to "tame the dragon" in June.
