[DeTomaso] Riddle me this, electrical people

Or even people with a slightly scientific mind.

My phone charger doesn't charge the phone in my Pantera. It's an official
Motorola charger, it works just fine in other cars but not in the Pantera.

I thought it might possibly be that the shape of the cigar lighter socket in
the Pantera was such that the charger didn't make contact, as the cigar
lighter works (I burned my finger testing that out.)

Anyway, I bought a 12-volt y-adapter with a built in light that shows if it
is plugged in.

I plug the adapter into the lighter of the Pantera and the light lights up,
indicating that it has juice. I plug the charger into the adapter and it
doesn't light up, indicating that it isn't charging.

How can an adapter have current, but the charger plugged into it not? The
charger works just fine in my daily driver or any one of the rental cars
that I use on a weeky basis. The only car it doesn't work in is the Pantera.

Summary - the cigar lighter works, and will light cigars if one wishes.

The y-adapter lights up, indicating that it is receiving current.

The phone charger doesn't light up, either plugging it directly into the
socket, or plugging it into the adapter, even though the adapter light is
lit.

Any idea what gives?

Thanks!
