The louvers kept the cabin cool and were considered attractive in the 70s.

A solid cover (AKA fairing) has been shown to improve aerodynamics.  Details at

My vague recollection is that the recent Pantera aerodynamics work showed that a clear cover over the rear deck made a big improvement in air flow.  I wonder if the louvers offer the same improvement?

large set that covers the whole deck



On a Mustang the louvers shaded a larger rear window  but neither approach 
seems to have any particular function or purpose on the  Pantera.      

Were louvered windows just some sort of 1970's decorative fad?
