No, you have that all backwards.   Raising the perch (which, if the 
distance between perches is less than the length of the spring, coincidentally 
compressess the springs) RAISES your car.   That is, assuming the threaded 
spring perch is on the bottom end of the shock.   You need to lower the perch to 
lower the car.   Forget about spring compression--it's meaningless.   The 
only thing that matters is the position of the upper and lower perches, one of 
which is fixed.

If you mount your shocks upside down so that the threaded adjuster is on 
the top, then lowering the upper perch raises the car.
