They do not interfere with the trunk insert at all.  Now here is the  
interesting thing.

Below were the A/C lines currently run, on the vertical portion of the  
inside fender, are a few of those metal tabs that typically are bent  
around wires or hoses.  This would indicate that was a typical routing  
location.  Now here is the interesting part.  They are covered over  
with the undercoat and have never been used.

So I can't really say it was different originally on my car, but these  
metal tabs are flat and don't appear to ever have been used. That and  
they are under the undercoat.
