If the link found here is the video I think it is, the pedal was hand-pushed, and it even
squeaks!

Even a big guy like you won't be putting much more than 50-75 lbs of leg 
pressure on the pedal, so an extreme pressure lube ought to last OK- like 80W 
90. Or chain lube also-and some of them are foaming which carries the goodie 
into the joints better. FWIW, the pivot pins and links in the overcenter 
linkage is all mild steel so expect some wear & slop. Sometimes this makes a 
squeek. I substituted pieces of hardened pushrods for the stock pins. Good
