OK guys, Barry nailed it on the head....even if he didn't realize it, regarding
your casting numbers....

Sean, your mechanic is scaring me...... A 390 is a neutral balance
engine.....any maroon can look at your flywheel and see that the flyweight would
indicate this is NOT the case......

PS, your flywheel IS the correct one!!!

Let's go to school again.....pay attention please!!!

FORD HAS THREE TYPES OF "PART NUMBERS".....

1) Engineering number: This usually does not appear on the parts themselves,
but is relegated to the engineering drawing for a particular part. Sometimes
the experimental parts actually had the Engineering Number on them.....BUT NOT
OFTEN will you find this number on the Ford parts we have in our cars.

2) Casting number: As it implies, it is cast into the part. Remember, that a
base part with casting number xxxx-xxxxx-x could be machined or such into
various versions W, Y, and Z for specific applications..... Flywheels are a
PRIME example of this. By drilling it for different balances, you can use one
casting for different app's. ie Boss 302, HiPo 289, regular
302/289.....351C.... Your parts books will (sometimes) tell you the casting
number or the stamped number, indicated by a # (pound sign) preceding a number,
in this case #C7TE-A would appear in the parts books when looking up a 351C
flywheel.

3) Part number: In your case, the C7TE-A that is stamped into the working face
(or MANY times these numbers are stamped on the front side of the flywheel, on
the outer ring area below where the ring gear mounts.) of the flywheel IS the
part number, or the greater portion of it. The part number is also what your
parts dude would find in his parts books, or it is the number that comes on the
box that you get from your Ford dealer..... C7TE-6380-A

Barry is correct in his presumption that your 2617 is probably 2G17 or July 17,
1972. Probably is not too far off from the casting date on your block,
distributor, original carb....

Hope this helps youse guys stay on track here!

390 flywheel....HAH!!!!

Steve :)
