The purpose of the anti sub belt is exactly that, to keep you from sliding
out from under the lap and shoulder belts, which in the unlikely event that
kind of force is exacted upon the car, I'd say it would be most likely if
one were to hit a wall head on or something equally as immovable ( tree ? )

Too many gruesome examples of dead drivers who came out of their belts when
they were not properly fitted, mounted or tightened up ( Dale E for one )

But I like the idea that you suggest that the belt aids in proper placement
of the remaining four points, since the anti sub belt usually is not
adjusted after being fitted the first time, I can't say that I ever snugged
them up with any regularity or as you can imagine, ever allowed/had a crew
member reach down there and give them a tug.
