*WARNING!*
In the past three days I have received no less then 3 Malware generated spam
emanating from List members e-mail addresses. For those of you who are
unfamiliar
with this type of attack it goes something like this. Someone with illicit
intentions sends out e-mail messages that contain a form of virus that
invades the person that is the victim of the attacks e-mail contacts list.
It then sends out bulk e-mail messages usually spam of a commercial
nature. The recipients of the infected e-mail accept and open the e-mail
message because it comes from a "Friend". The key to identifying these
messages before you open them is to look for certain tell tale warning
signs. Here are some of the warning signs, they are not fool proof but they
are a good indicator of something "suspicious"
1. Look for messages that are addressed to large groups of people. This mass
spam attacks normally target the entire address book of the victim that is
now e-mailing you.
2. The subject line is often blank or is suspicious ( an unusual subject
matter that would not normally be a subject you would be discussing with
this person or a large group of people.
3.You have not been involved in an ongoing dialogue with this person.
4. The subject line is blank.
5.There are spelling or grammatical errors. ( like the type of mistakes you
see in written directions that come with articles manufactured in China.
Things like The piece screwed with right hand tool while size is not
incorrect.
*This part is very important! If there is an attachment or executable file
attached to the e-mail DO NOT OPEN IT OR CLICK ON IT!!!!. Doing this will
allow the virus to infect your computer and start the entire process all
over again sending out infected e-mails to everyone in your contacts list.
If you are unsure if an e-mail you have received from a friend is
legitimate send an e-mail to your friend and ask him (or her) if they sent
you the questionable e-mail or if they are aware that their computer has
been infected.*

If you suspect that an e-mail in your inbox is suspect it's far better to
be safe then sorry. Just delete the message with out opening it up. You can
always write to your friend and ask them to resend any legit message you may
have deleted. Make sure you have a high quality virus software and make sure
it is updated frequently ( I do mine automatically at least once a day. )
Many of the major Internet access providers offer virus protection software
for no charge to their customers. Especially companies that provide
Internet , telephone and cable TV

Good luck and be careful!
