[DeTomaso] Valve guide installation.

  Hi Guys

I am looking for some advice regarding installation of valve guides.
I have bought some new bronze valve for the 4,6l modular engine. I
received the guides yesterday and discovered that there is a groove on
the id of one end off the guides.
The groove is machined about 1/8" inside the end of the guide.
I was calling the supplier to ask if the groove was supposed to point
upwards, or down towards the cylinder. They said it was supposed to
point up.
Today I was checking the interference between the valves and the guide id.
The valve guide id is bigger at the end with the groove, which would
have leaded to a bigger clearance at the top end of the valve.
From what I have heard / read this would be wrong as the valve stem
would expand more on the opposite end. (Some modern engines will have
tapered valve stems where the od is smaller towards the combustion
chamber than on the other end.)

I am now leaning towards mounting the guides with the groove and largest
diameter towards the combustion chamber to get a larger clearance at
that end.
Is there any off you guys that have experience with this subject? Any
advices?

Best regards
