There were a lot of BBC powered cars so it's very possible that you are correct.

I bet it was a Big Block Chevy, much of that is an idiosyncrasy of the BBC port design, where the ports opening into the center of the cylinder work better than those that point into the cylinder wall. Cylinders 2, 3, 6 and 7 will have shorter stacks and require less spark advance and typically also run with a shorter spark plug than 1, 4, 5 and 8.
