re. semi auto rifles, would it have been worse if the Oklahoma bombers showed up with AK47s and killed 10 or 20 people?
 
The hype over semi auto rifles got started in Cal when a nut case, who should have been put away for life for previous behavior, killed some kids.  Most gun owners are pissed off because politicians would rather disarm law abiding citizens than lock up criminals.  Makes you wonder who the politicians are afraid of?

This was a hoax, but the gun community should not be surprised if SOMETHING comes down the pike because the industry / hobby is not policing itself.

My understanding is that while law abiding citizens go to gun shops, apply for a permit, wait 7 days, whatever, a person can just go to a gun show and buy a semiautomatic assault rifle and not even show ID.  Here in CA there is also a problem where people buy handguns then sell them on to criminals-- I mean buying 6 a year and if asked where they are the person says "It got stolen,  or I lost it."
