I have an oil leak and I have not been able to determine it's source. In all
honesty I haven't really tried to locate it but it appears to be getting
worse so with the winter coming it seems like the perfect time and project
to under take over the winter. I have noticed oil leaks as far up the clock
as the oils pressure sending unit ( I know this is not the primary source
but it is one to take care of and O don't think I need assistance with it.
Next are the valve cover gaskets. They appear to have allowed a certain
volume of oil to leak over the years and I think that it's a relatively
simple fix. ( if there is something I am over looking involving removing the
valve covers and replacing the gaskets speak now or for ever hold your piece
( in other words let me know now before I get in over my head (it that's
possible) I see loads of oil on the bottom of the Pan and am assuming that
the Pan gasket is bad. I am praying it is not the rear seal. Is there
anyplace else that is a common source (oil pump, oil filter mount, fuel
pump) or any other location that is known as a potential problem area. My
engine has been running great and I have had no problems with my clutch or
trans axle so I would like to avoid pulling the engine and trans axle to
identify and remedy this problem if at all possible so your help will be
greatly appreciated.
Any ideas for areas I may have missed and any techniques for discovering and
then fixing the leaks would be greatly appreciated.
Remember I am not an ACE mechanic. I am an armature at best and I have
extremely limited work space and facilities. I do have a compressor and a
fair assortment of tools so please keep this in mind . Oh and one last
obstacle I have to do most of the work unassisted with little or no help.
Thanks in advance,
Boyd
