Can you install, mark thru the setscrew hole, and drill a shallow cone in
the shaft to improve the setscrew grip?

Subject: [DeTomaso] u joints

i am pretty sure the u joints are from flaming river, and the same ones go
for the shift linkage as the steering linkage. they are much better than
stock, especially if you are trying to get good feel and less slop in the
steering. I bought them from summit racing, but the price was the same as
if i had bought from a vendor at the time, so may not be any savings. the u
joints are pricey, and it is a challenge to get the set screw to lock on the
shift linkage without slipping. the originals have a pinch fitting; the
flaming rivers (or are they borgesons? dont recall) have a set screw and it
likes to slide, so I have had to retighten all my shift linkage ujoints at
least once after the linkage slid a bit -- when that happens u can only get
1, 3, and 5th gears - not 2, 4 or reverse. but you will get some nice gear
grinding when you try! wonder if tight stock ones would be good enough for
shift linkage. all of mine had some play in them...

i can get the numbers off the u joints if anyone is interested in the part
number. justin
