[DeTomaso] 1972 Pantera shift linkage

I replaced mine with a new shaft from Quella. I sent him the old shaft and
the shifter. He returned a new shaft, the shifter rebuilt, and new needle
bearing u-joints. It is much much better.

Of course, right now I'm not going anywhere. The engine is still missing.
It ~was~ silky smooth, though.

I forgot to mention. The adjustable portion was bent, probably from a lost
u-joint in the 70's. Dennis straightened that part too.

I was helping Bob try to straighten out his shifter problem. His shifter
gate appears to be original. It's important to note that everything worked
before he had the car taken apart. The guy who did the restoration painted
the shifter linkage and now the trunnion nuts are frozen. (not all of them).
The lock nut closest to the fire wall is free and when you try to shift into
reverse the shifter linkage shaft turns into and out of the trunnion.. We
both tried to free the trunnion and the last nut(the one closest to the
back of the car. I suggested trying the formula of automatic tranny fluid
and acetone and possibly heat. It is my understanding that the linkage is
not supposed to be painted. I think if we could get the trunnion and lock
nuts free we could have gotten the shifter aligned..
