[DeTomaso] Removing Poly Bushings

Mike...yes I will be reusing the bushings. I didn't try any lubricant for fear it would
make them that much more slippery than they already are. That is a good idea to try a punch or
something round that might catch the edge in the center of two bushings. Even if it did nick them up
a little in the center it shouldn't do much damage and the bushing would still be fine.
Jack, those friggin stock rubber bushings are a just a ball to get out, as anyone who has tried it will attest!
SoBill had a great little tool kit with two or three hole saws, a bunch of cool press fittings made specifically for
removing the steel and rubber centers using his vice held press/jack contraption that he loaned me.
The press he made worked very well once I was able to slice off one end of the metal bushing. Only problem
was SoBill's tools had a slightly larger shaft diameter so they didn't work on my bushings. I had to improvise...
so I broke out the air grinder and went at it! Not the cleanest way to do it but it worked and then I pressed out
the steel center along with the rubber. Glad that's over.

I know someone has run done this.
Are you planning on reusing your poly bushings?
They come in two halves with a steel sleeve through the center. If you drive the sleeve out, then it's fairly easy to stick a punch halfway through, catch the inner edge and tap one half of the bushing out; the other half is then even easier to remove. Or you can just use channel lock pliers on the outside edges and twist them out.
A little lube would be a good idea when you reassemble them. Really, you should easily be able to pluck the bushings out by hand. :>)
