[DeTomaso] Alternator Options

OK, so for the record and in case anyone isn't familiar with your car way
back then, the root of the problem was not caused by your a stock
alternator. Your problem was that your battery had about 17 seconds of
autonomy, and as a result your car was running off your alternator as
opposed to off your battery under low charge situations. Installing a new
battery would most likely have permitted your car to continue to run at
stoplights and charge while driving, more or less as designed. Right?

And I question your statement about running your battery dead in a matter of
minutes at a red light. Either your battery is completely toast or I don't
see that situation happening.

I mentioned that my battery *was* completely toast. The starter sucked too.
Remember, my Pantera was a total POS when I bought it!

In fact, once it warmed up, I could never just shut the engine off and
restart it; the starter would just chug. I had to let it cool down 10-15
minutes before it would grind back to life. But I did experience the car
dying at a red light due to the battery drain, so after that I developed a
technique where every time I came to a red light at night, I would run
through the cabin, turning off the stereo, shutting off the A/C, etc. to
reduce the electrical loading. I just couldn't bear the idea of sitting
there with my foot on the gas, revving the engine to keep the ammeter on the
positive side.

To reiterate--my car was a POS! :>)
