Interesting history of a single engine.  Here are my guesses via long
distance.

1. #2 had a vacuum leak
2. Oil leak in #2 - like a valve guide.
3. #2 cam lobe is different than the rest (unlikely but possible) with a
shorter exhaust cycle.
4. Since it is carbed and not injected, a guess of a lean single cylinder is
more unlikely,  but still possible.
