[DeTomaso] Do you have a personalized license/registration plate?

I didn't realize Julian sent a copy to the list...

I already answered him directly, with specifics for him, which I don't need to repeat here
because it contained private data.

I naturally can not answer for other sources... But as to ProvaMo (and the registry),
there are a number of methods used to maintain privacy.

The obvious one is that when one adds a car, or updates the entry for their car, there is
a field called privacy, with the options of "Yes" (additional privacy), or "No". I also
manually review use this choice when making a decision regarding contact between owners,
for example.

Before this privacy flag was created, some cars had their previous owner history added to
the Detail & Photo page for that specific car. Later, a section of the database was
created for owner history. This ownership data is only available to the current owner.
Ownership data includes owner names, dates of ownership, e-mail address, and license
plates, for example.

Only a general location, state (if applicable) and country is available to verified
registry members.

There is a balance between privacy and knowledge. I offer the registry as a resource of
knowledge, while at the same time offering owners a selectable level of privacy. If
anything I have erred on the side of privacy.

If there is one complaint about the registry, it is that it is not transparent to the
world. Not anyone can, in an instant, create a list of cars to steal, for example. This
is intentional, and part of the methods and procedures to maintain the privacy of owners.
It is this specific example (among others) that I had in mind when designing the registry.
It is important to note that this is also a feature (part of a set of features) that
separates this resource from any other 'list' of DeTomaso cars.

If anyone would like to chat about the De Tomaso Registry in general, or registry privacy
in particular, please contact me directly.

This brings up some lingering questions I have regarding security of online information.
Often with online postings of vehicle photos the license plate is 'smudged' unreadable or
lettering erased for privacy. On Provamo, not only are mine and many other license plates
readable, the text also states who currently owns the car and their state.

So don't you think someone with mal intent could submit a photo of a Pantera to get access
and have at their fingertips a veritable "shopping" list of Pantera's? They can even
search by body style, year, color and numerous other options for that demanding customer
of theirs.....
