Wrong

The problem with ear marks is NOT the dollars of the ear marks, they are
minor. It is that the leaders of BOTH parties use it as an enticement to
get fellow members of congress to vote for bills that would otherwise not be
attractive. Period. THOSE bills are the problems.

The "Louisiana purchase" was nothing more that a large ear mark. The
senator was NOT going to vote for the healthcare bill until she was bought.
Harry Reid waved a cool 100 mill in front of her and bingo. She changed her
vote. A 100 MILL is nothing when compared to the 900 BILL the bill will
actually cost.

100 billion dollar bills are being passed that might not otherwise pass
because the leaders are able to bribe senators with 10 million dollar
earmarks for proctology studies on farting cows.

The loss of the ability to manipulate senators with these bribes and
therefore require that bills actually be scrutinized is what the leaders are
really afraid of.

This is a problem with both parties.

Just banning Federal government budget earmarks will not save any money.

None.

This from a Republican Senator, the Concord Coalition,Taxpayers for Common
Sense,
and the libertarian Cato Institute.

All the political blathering about how stopping earmarks will somehow help
reduce government spending is just one more example of how a well-selected
buzzword campaign is just empty rhetoric designed to appeal to emotions,
without injecting any new facts to facilitate a rational discussion.
