[DeTomaso] Indicator lights on race cars?

Most of you are right, depending on the race series and per their rules.
Vic Edelebrock once told me the lights on the doors of his Trans-Am Camaro
were to illuminate the car's race numbers after dark. The current American
LeMans series has different colored lights for the 4 different classes running
together on long, dark tracks. And in some series, teams use different colors
to ID the cars on-track after dark, in case of (frequent) radio failure.
The common thread of course is 'after dark'; events such as Bonneville or most
short-tracks that don't run after dark obviously have no need. FWIW- J
